No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Trinamool Congress candidate from Sagar Dighi, Bayron Biswas, on Thursday alleged that he was prevented from casting his vote after being repeatedly frisked by central forces personnel at a polling booth in Dhulian, Murshidabad. According to his claims, he was searched as many as five times at the Gandhi Vidyalaya polling station, which left him agitated. Expressing strong dissatisfaction over the treatment, Biswas ultimately left the booth without casting his vote, triggering political reactions in the region.
Recounting the incident, Biswas alleged that the repeated searches were not routine but a deliberate attempt to harass him. He termed the episode a “planned conspiracy” and claimed that political motives were behind the alleged obstruction. He specifically accused Samsherganj candidate Noor Alam of attempting to influence the situation to his disadvantage, suggesting that the actions were aimed at affecting his electoral prospects.
The controversy comes amid heightened political attention around Biswas, who had recently made headlines for his candid remarks ahead of the elections. At a press conference, he openly acknowledged switching political sides and described himself as “selfish” and someone who had “betrayed” his former party. He also reiterated his respect for Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, calling him his political mentor and stating that he would always hold him in high regard.
The developments have added to the political buzz in Murshidabad, with the incident raising questions about polling day procedures and conduct. While Biswas has alleged targeted harassment, the situation has intensified local political tensions, making the episode a significant talking point in the ongoing election atmosphere.
